Eleven of us braved the forecast today and we were rewarded by pleasant warm sunshine after the first half hour. We walked through the village, down Station Road and Millers lane but did not risk the ford. The filed edge round the copse and along to the motorway was wet but not too muddy until just before the motorway tunnel. There was a lot of water and mud between there and the Great Western Arms, but it wasn’t the stuff that sucked our boots off. We took the towpath with the flooded water meadows on our right and a very full canal on our left. At Souldern Wharf the bridge and farm yard were surprisingly clear of the usual mud and then we were onto the tarmac of Wharf Lane. This week we took the lane down towards the ford but branched off on the footpath along the wall which brought us to millers Lane and back to Aynho and the usual welcome refreshments.
