It was good to see the sunshine as thirteen of us set off down Green Lane. Underfoot was saturated grass, thick clinging mud and vast puddles. We turned right at the end of Green Lane but took the field edge for the first section of the track as a rather squelchy alternative to the long section of water. The sunshine and light breeze made it a perfect day for walking, and we continued along the valley before turning up to the track into the centre of Charlton village. We saw very little animal or bird life this morning, except for the sheep, still thickly woolly, as we approached the Rainsborough Camp. From there we cut through to the Charlton Road and walked back to the pavilion where the usual refreshments awaited.
