A busy school where learning is consistently engaging, is what we strive to achieve and recently we have been at our busiest with many national events as well as school specific ones taking place.
In my last I update I informed you that the choir had reached the final of Banbury Young Musician of the year. I am so pleased to announce that for our category, Junior Choir, we won which was a fabulous achievement for the choir and Mrs Williams who leads them superbly. Christiana was also successful in her category.
Rev’d Doug Spenceley from the Diocese has been in school again regularly talking to the children about Lent and will return soon to lead Collective Worship on Holy week. It is wonderful that both Newbottle and Aynho have both appointed Reverend’s and I look forward to building relationships with both again to help keep the Christian ethos firmly embedded in our work.
We have also celebrated World Book Day and the school was awash with characters from a number of different books. A love of reading is vital to achievement and we are lucky to have a full stocked library and children who enjoy reading a wide range of genres. At the end of the day we had a story share where they all got to listen to a story for 10 minutes.
We have also had a great time as part of British Science and Engineering Week. We were
successful in winning two grants to allow a variety of investigations and visitors in as well as trips out. We had a dome in school which children visited in groups and they learnt all about prehistoric times and dinosaurs. We also had Zoolab in to share with children about animals and their habitats, diet and features – we welcomed a rat, a snake, a
tarantula, a hermit crab to name a few. Annually we take half the school to the Big Bang Fayre in Birmingham which is full of exhibitions and stalls, all science related – children again had a great time! Children also carried out various investigations
throughout the week – how to make a perfect sandcastle, designing marble runs, making bouncy ball, being forensic scientists. Wow that was just in one week!
Charity is an important part of our work and children appreciating others around them and in need so we donned crazy bottoms for Comic Relief as well as holding a cupcake competition! These were judged and then purchased helping us raise money for this good cause!
Finally, we have our Spring/Easter community tea on Thursday 4th April at 2pm which you are all welcome to join us for – please let the office know if you can attend.
