Aynho Long Walk 2nd July 2015

Nine of us set off today in overcast humid weather. Fortunately there was a cool breeze and the rain held off apart from a light sprinkling towards the end.  It was good to welcome Sue McCouaig back after a long absence.  We walked down Green Lane to Lower Walton Grounds, crossed the stream, being careful to duck under the low branch, and reached the narrow path through to the fields on the Kings Sutton side. The paths were cut through the ripening rape seed as we reached the copse at the top of the rise and continued down the diagonal path to the field edge.  We passed into the next field and climbed at the diagonal to the crest of the ridge.  We paused and many of us had a refreshing mouthful of water.  From here the path wound through fields of wheat and oats as well as rape seed, but it was always easy to follow. We reached the old stone pits  and then Charlton village where two walkers stopped briefly at the Post Office.  On down the hill we went and then up through Rainsborough Camp and back to the pavilion where the refreshments were particularly welcome.  Five and a half miles completed.
